Welcome to The Wagon Box

The essays, stories, videos, music, art and anything else that appears on this site have one thing in common: the author was recently at The Wagon Box, and plans to return.

A Cultural Crossroads, a Network Node that you can Visit.

Now, at the peak of digital publishing, atomized voices clash or whiff past each other with no sense of place, no real interaction, no physical repercussion. Tribes collect in group chats, form networks, and build alliances often without ever meeting in person, which creates some problems. There’s something unique about meeting another person. Always will be. There’s a real bond that comes from a convivial evening around the table, a certain grace one must have if the person you are arguing with might soon buy you a beer. The Wagon Box is such a place: for lone rangers, seekers, free radicals, and also overlapping networks who are united by the questions they are asking, the sense of belonging, the vibe. And these writings are from them.

On 20 acres in the Bighorn Mountains, with a restaurant, lodge, cabins, camping, tipis, and vintage RVs, it is a place to gather, to get away, to read, write, wander, meet folks, or hunker down. We have hosted writers’ retreats, philosophical symposia, Parallel Systems Colloquy, The Machine and Human Nature Conference, gathering of Backcountry Horsemen, investment groups, a Bison Nationalism debate, and all kinds of informal conversations, chess games, stories, prayer meetings, jams, walks, deals, and schemes.

Come take a seat

All sorts of folks are part of The Wagon Box project, but a certain vibe emerges. Most of us want to get away from the Cathedral hall monitors, obsolete arguments mired in GAE party politics, vacuous hack corporate journalism, identity political games, and want to get in on the discussions that matter: possible future relationship between human nature and machines, ancient avenues to truth and beauty, postliberal governance models, 4th world solutions, corporate surrealism, parallel economic systems, new models of property ownership and investment collaboration, re-wilding and re-civilizing. Instead of a lone voice, this Substack is like a seat at the bar, with a wide variety of voices. And the best part is you can head to The Wagon Box and take a seat at the actual bar and you may run into any one of the authors published here. Or you may become one.
